A Sense of Entitlement in UO

I really don’t like to do actual commentaries on here, but the sense of entitlement that some have is just insane these days, and some of the things I’ve seen players do lately is just, how do I put it. I’ll just say it doesn’t help the image of UO.

Tonight at the memorial service held for the Japanese victims of last week’s earthquake, somebody decided that since there were EMs in attendance, that they should receive something.

Keep in mind that this was an event organized by Queen Mum of UOForums.com. Queen Mum is not an EM or an employee of EA. Queen Mum is a player who cares a lot about the UO community.

This was not some kind of event where there was an EM challenge or we participated in some fight against an EM-controlled Virtuebane.

This was a memorial service that was organized by a player. The EMs and Mesanna showing up to attend was very nice, but this was still a player event. That didn’t matter to some. They decided to spam us with all caps and swearing and they were upset that the EMs weren’t giving them something, and were very upset when other players pointed out that this was a player event.

It’s probably best to watch that on YouTube.com (link) and watch it in 480p in expanded view.

This is my opinion, and my opinion only, and does not represent the views of anybody else mentioned in this article or this video.

Memorial Service for Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami Victims on Sonoma, 6pm Pacific, 8pm Central

Details:
* Friday, March 18, 2011
* 6pm Pacific, 9pm Eastern
* Sonoma Shard
* Homare-Jima, Tokuno Island
* Sculpture Flower Garden

It is currently going on, and many players are arriving as I post this. If you have a few minutes, make an appearance. The best way to get here is to head to Luna and take the extra moongate that is near the standard moongate.

EM Eira and EM Sangria, and others are here, and I believe I saw Mesanna. And of course a few players are trying to be jackasses and bringing up crap about the TOS and asking for special items from EMs.

I would like to thank Queen Mum from TLF for hosting this event.

Ultima Online Goes Boom – a Bit of St. Patrick’s Day Fun on LS

Rather than continue exploring New Magincia on the Test Center and looking through some of the new things with Publish 70, I took some time out to participate in a St. Patrick’s Day EM event on Lake Superior, that took place in Minoc. It was a lot of fun, only died a few times, and I wouldn’t be surprised if most players heavily involved died at least once. At one point, one of the Guardian leprachauns took down about 10-15 people within 30 seconds.

There was a mongbat that decided to explode in the midst of everything – jump to about 20 seconds into this short video:

I have several videos of the event that I’ll post if there is any interest among LSers. Sorry for the lower quality, still experimenting with some things in the EC.

I’d like to thank the Lake Superior EMs for putting this event on. It appeared to be a well-attended event. I’d also like to thank Lord William Wallace for resurrecting me!

I’ll wrap up my New Magincia coverage tomorrow.

Notes about Publish 70, Tour, Map of New Magincia, Chance Encounter with Lady Mesanna, No Vendor Search

Publish 70 is now live, and the client patches have been released. The first thing I noticed – a 92MB patch for the EC. This is only part 1 – I’ve got quite a bit more to bring you, but have to step out for a bit. The second thing I noticed, there were no NPC shops, other than the Inn and the Fishing and Shipwright’s guild, plus the bank.

I was lucky enough, along with quite a few others, to run into Lady Mesanna, Associate Producer for UO. Phoenix, the Lead Designer for UO, was also on hand, answering a few questions. Among those answered – there will be a pet bonding gate installed in New Haven, and according to Phoenix, the idea of a way to search vendors has been discussed, but is not currently being pursued.

Ultima Online - New Magincia

For more on New Magincia, which is the focus of this publish, see Map of New Magincia, Housing Details Released. There is a map of all of the plots below. I’m going to have to seriously revise that post, because there is nothing outside of the bank, Fishing Guild, and the Inn. I’m also going to have to seriously redo the Magincia map below because it’s way too busy.

Ultima Online - New Magincia - Housing Lottery Plots

To me, E-3, SW-1, and SE-1 really stand out. E-3 has a great view and SE-1 and SW-1 are probably the best locations for being near everything else.

This is E-3, and it’s also where I ran into Lady Mesanna, who introduced us to Phoenix, the Lead Designer for UO:

What’s it like to buy a ticket for the lottery? You are buying a ticket for each plot and it looks like you could buy tickets for every single plot.
